Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, Marcelle Ferron, A Retrospective, June 2 - September 10, 2000, catalogue #10

This early work by Ferron was shown during her first solo exhibition at the Librairie Tranquille in Montreal in January 1949, a few months following the publication of the Automatiste manifesto Refus global, in August 1948. It was also shown during her major retrospective in 2000 at the Musée d'art contemporain in Montreal. Both inclusion confirm the historical importance of Tissus aquatiques, a painting that showcases Ferron's early influences from european surrealism and the beginnings of what will become her singular application of paint onto the surface with large spatulas and palette knives.
