LITERATURE
Mark Igloliorte, “Shuvinai Ashoona: Composition 3,” Inuit Art Quarterly, vol. 33, no. 4, Winter 2020, page 20

A third-generation Inuit artist who was born and still lives in Kinngait, Nunavut, Shuvinai Ashoona is renowned worldwide for her richly imaginative drawings. Bold in their use of colour and compelling in their subject matter, her drawings reference traditional iconography (such as shamans, mythic figures or hybrid creatures), elements of the natural world, and aspects of contemporary life in the North. Ashoona’s distinctive, often fantastical vision has made her works as recognizable as the drawings of Itee Pootoogook or the prints of Kenojuak Ashevak. As Mark Igloliorte has written, “Her incredible drawings in ink, pencil and pencil crayon form a distinctive aesthetic now.”

Please note: this work is unframed.
