LITERATURE
Nancy G. Campbell, Shuvinai Ashoona: Life & Work, Art Canada Institute, 2019, https://www.aci-iac.ca/art-books/shuvinai-ashoona/significance-and-critical-issues/#personal-iconography

Globes appear frequently in the intricate drawings of Shuvinai Ashoona—green and blue spheres that suggest connection, conservation and care. Sometimes these globes are floating through space, but most often, as in Two People Gathering Worlds, they appear alongside or interacting with human figures. Other renowned drawings that feature globes include Earth Transformations (2012, private collection) and Shovelling Worlds (2013, collection of the Art Gallery of Ontario).

As Nancy G. Campell has noted, “The globe drawings are usually optimistic: people of all races hold globes, or globes with arms and hands grasp animal and human hands in a circle of life.” Here, the figures’ pale yellow and bright orange clothing and footwear sets a sunny mood, even if their facial expressions remain enigmatic. The playful, camouflage-like pattern of the standing figure’s cargo pants complements the patterning of the globes above in this superbly balanced large-scale drawing.

Please note: each sheet measures 19 1/2 x 25 1/2 inches.
