PROVENANCE
Private Collection, Shanghai


Ink on woodblock decorated letter papers, mounted as a scroll. Features three letters of Xu Yongyi (1826-1900), Xu Jingcheng (1845-1900), and Yuan Chang (1846-1900), the three important ministers of the Late Qing Dynasty at the turn of the century. The first written to Laifeng (circa Guangxu period), Signed Xu Yongyi, dated March the first. The second written to Chuangqiu (Yuan Chang), signed Xu Jingcheng; and the last signed Chang. Inscribed to the scroll with a seal mark of ‘Hongmian huating,’ No. 460.
