Art Gallery of Windsor, David Blackwood: An Exhibition from the Ron and Ginetta Barbaro Gift to the AGW, June 21 – September 8, 2013, same image

While David Blackwood maintained a studio in Wesleville, Newfoundland for many years, the artist was primarily based in Ontario for the majority of his career. From the many decades spent in Ontario, however, this work and lot 210 in this sale represent some of his only imagery depicting this region. Works such as these, Towards the Open, 1965, and the Beach Objects series serve as interesting counterpoints to the artist’s monument of imagery inspired by his East Coast home.
