Richard Misrach is one of the most important and influential living American photographers. His photographs highlight the effects of human intervention on the landscape and the often damaging impact that industry has on the environment. In Salton Sea (Slide), we see abandoned remains, including a slide and a boat - once meant for leisure - slowly rusting as they sit in shallow waters. These forgotten elements serve to highlight the effects of the increasing salinity and pollution from agricultural runoff and other sources have had on a man-made lake without an outflow.
