PROVENANCE
A Distinguished Private Collection, Vancouver
With two hinged doors that reveal Kannon Bosatsu, the Buddhist Bodhisattva of compassion, standing on an elaborate tiered base while wearing elegant robes, the right hand in the gesture of teaching, the head with downcast eyes and graceful smile while wearing an ornate crown, behind the deity is a large carved mandorla. The shrine is supported by a stepped base which is attached to a later red lacquer stand.
