The optical effect created by this painting is stunning. Each element of the canvas seems to vibrate: the colours are bright and contrasting, while the lines and repeated motifs add to the illusion of movement. As viewers, we are unsure if the blue is the background colour of the work, or whether it’s the dark orange. What remains certain while looking at this piece, is the hypnotic effect it has on our retina.
L’effet optique créé par ce tableau est saisissant. Tous les éléments de cette toile semblent vibrer : les couleurs sont vives, contrastant entre elles, tandis que les lignes et les motifs répétitifs accroissent l’illusion de mouvement. On ne sait pas si le bleu constitue la couleur de fond de cette œuvre ou s’il s’agit plutôt de cet orange foncé. Mais, ce qui demeure certain, à la vue de ce tableau, c’est l’effet hypnotisant qu’il exerce sur notre rétine.
