The use of the very wide palette knife and arrangement of the composition in Sans titre - no. 8 are typical of Marcelle Ferron’s manner and method of painting from the late 1950s, which are some her most sought after works. This piece is part of a group of paintings that were repatriated to Canada at the end of her French sojourn, which spanned over ten years. These works were shipped flat, then mounted on wood by the artist in the years that followed, as she had cut them from their stretchers so as to facilitate the shipping process.
L’utilisation de la spatule très large et l’organisation de la composition sont typiques de la manière et du style de travail propres à Marcelle Ferron à partir de la fin des années 1950, dans ce qui deviendra son style le plus recherché. Cette œuvre fait partie du groupe qui a été rapatrié au Canada après son séjour de plus de dix années en France, alors que les toiles ont été expédiées à plat, puis au fil des années montées sur bois par l’artiste qui les avait découpées de leur châssis pour faciliter le processus d’exportation.
