Sybil Andrews was part of the Grosvenor School in England, a group of artists working in linocut who were influenced by the modernist movements of Futurism, Vorticism and Cubism. During the 1930s, Sybil Andrews began depicting labourers, including rural farm workers, whom she observed near her native Bury St. Edmunds in England. Gypsies is a prime example from this period, in which the synchronized movement of the labourers is stylized to create a highly dynamic composition.

This is a very fine impression, with strong colours, on buff oriental laid tissue.
