Edition of 18

Guido Molinari started making silkscreens in the early 1960s. It was then that he founded a studio where he made multiple prints of his works as he’d done with the Noirs et Blancs series in 1967. Silkscreen was used for various purposes in Molinari’s work. It was a creative vehicle in its own right, related to the potential he had tapped into through his hard-edge practice. To create these works, the artist used the masking tape technique for the vertical lines. The narrow bands of colour were then arranged to seek a new colour rhythm. Using his screen printer late in his career, Guido Molinari approached silkscreen as an extension of some of his existing paintings – particularly those from his main artistic periods. The artist’s reproductions of the vertical stripe paintings of the 1960s attest to his desire to share and distribute his work as widely as possible.

Consignor proceeds from the sale of this Lot will benefit the Guido Molinari Foundation.
