James Lahey
James Lahey
1961 -
RCA
James Lahey is a Toronto-based artist who works in a wide variety of mediums and subject matter including photography, public projects, abstract painting and representational work. A focus on daily experience and memory provides a common thread to his varied imagery, which is often produced in series.
Lahey completed his BFA at York University in Toronto in 1984, with studies in Art and Architecture in Italy through a joint program with York University and Lowell University in Massachusetts. In 1986 he earned a certificate in the preservation of Art and Artifacts from the Ontario Museums Association.
After graduation, Lahey took positions at The Art Gallery at Harbourfront, The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Ontario and Bruce Mau Design, but then turned exclusively to his artistic practice in 1998. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors at the Power Plant Art Gallery in Toronto and of Directors for Dancemakers, and has been a member of the Acquisitions Committee for Prints and Drawings at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Lahey’s work has been featured in the MacLaren Museum, The University of Toronto Art Centre and Museum London. He has been represented by galleries across Canada, in Britain and the United States.
