Elisabeth Margaret Hopkins
1894 - 1991
Born in Hampshire, England in 1894, she was the neice of the English poet, Gerard Manley Hopkins. She moved to Vancouver Island at the age of 60 and spent her later years on Galiano Island where she was known to the local children as "Hoppy". Her first publication, the illustrated children's book "The Painted Cougar" was published in 1977 when she was eighty-three years old. Her original watercolours were exhibited at Bau-Xi Gallery in Vancouver.
