While David Blackwood maintained a studio in Wesleville, Newfoundland for many years, the artist was primarily based in Ontario for the majority of his career. From the many decades spent in Ontario, however, this work represents one of his few depictions of this region of Canada. Works such as this, Night Island (1963), Spring (1965) and the Beach Objects series serve as fascinating counterpoint to the artist’s monument of imagery inspired by his East Coast home.
